Text Message "GOOGLE" for Quick Free Results

I decided it's time to share one of my favorite Google offerings that hardly anyone knows about / takes advantage of. Google Mobile lets you query the power of Google using text messaging and I use it ALL the time. For example, why pay to call 411 or bother listening to ads with 1-800-FREE-411 when you just need to text "google" (466453) a business name and a zip code. Or want to know the current weather conditions and forecast? Text "weather" and a zip code to "google" and voila. The image to the right is a sample of weather results. Google makes it even simpler though, once you text them a zip code it becomes your default location and you never need to text the zip again unless you want a new zip code for the search.

Here is a small sample of handy features (click the above link for more):
  • Local Address/Phone seach - Olive Garden 14586
  • Local Category Search - pizza 14650
  • Weather - weather 14623
  • Sports - score Yankees
  • Dictionary - define pandemic
  • Movie Times - movies 14424

The Ultimate Tailgate Accessory

The post title says it all...introducing the Ultimate Tailgate by Gameday Customs. At a mere $13900 you can have this rock star style tailgate trailer to impress your friends, loved ones, and random drunks at the game. This sucker sports a 26" LCD TV, satellite dish, CD/DVD player, 1000 watt stereo with 12 inch subs, kegerator system, 1000 Watt generator, electrical outlets, a sink, a toilet, and a 10 gallon fresh water system. With this I wouldn't even mind going to see the Bills...well maybe not.

Amazon MP3s - Watch Out Apple

This past Tuesday Amazon.com decided it wanted a piece of the online music action by launching AmazonMp3 beta. I finally took a test drive last night and I have to say Apple better watch out!

The most exciting part of Amazon Mp3 is that songs are offered in non-DRMed 256Mbps Mp3 format!!! Yes that's DRM free goodness people, compatible with ANY music player and in very high quality. Most songs are priced at 89 cents with some at 99. Albums are $5.99 to $9.99. Right off the bat that's cheaper than the iTunes store for the majority of their catalog. Although Amazon doesn't have as much music to offer (2 million+ songs compared to iTunes 6 million+), they did sign deals with 2 of the 4 major record labels (EMI and Universal). I am sure the other two will follow suite if Amazon Mp3 can gain some momentum. You can preview any song or album just like in the iTunes store, and they even offer a standalone download manager (similar to what allofmp3.com had) that will automatically add your purchased music to your iTunes or Windows media player libraries.

I give the store a solid B+. It would have gotten an A but it didn't have all the music I was looking for do to lack of contracts with the other two music labels. Hopefully in time, that will change and Amazon Mp3 will blow iTunes DRMed non-universal format store away.

Bonds Record Breaking 756 HR Ball to Get Asterisk

Uber rich fashion designer Marc Ecko purchased Bonds' HR recorded breaking ball for $750,000+ back on Sept. 15. At that time, Ecko announced he would let fans decide the fate of the ball by voting on a website he setup.

The choices were:
a. bestow it (give it to the hall of fame unaltered),
b.
brand it (give it to the hall of fame after premanently marking the ball with an asterisk)
c.
banish it. (launch the ball into space)

Well the votes are in and fans have decided mark that sucker with an asterisk! I admit I voted for the asterisk myself, and it makes me happy to see it turn out this way.

Baseball and/or the baseball hall of fame would never have the balls (pun totally intended) to differentiate Bonds achievement in the steroid/HGH era from that of Hank Aaron. Bonds has admitted to using a two steroids concoctions he swears he didn't know were steroids. Enough said.

1GB of Memory Now and Then

This is what 1GB of memory looked like 20 years ago...and what it looks like now. Pretty impressive. I remember when I was 11 my dad bought an IBM XT personal computer. I don't remember how much RAM it had, but the 10MB hard drive was an extra $500.

New Corvette ZR1 650Hp

How did I miss something as awesome as this?! The new Corvette ZR1 (or Z07 as it has been called) is packed with a supercharged 6.2L V8 engine that generates 650hp. That baby can propel it from 0-60 in a mere 3.4-seconds. The end of the video gives us a little taste of what the new engine sounds like. VERDICT: I WANT ONE.

Paper Written While High

This is most likely fake, but it's really funny nonetheless. You can zoom in and out using the Scrib tool bar to make it easier to read. The funniest part is this supposedly didn't get an F!

Britney Spears Video Music Award Debacle

I have never liked Britney Spears, and watching her downward spiral over the past couple years has been seriously entertaining. Her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards September 9th should be the end to any hopes she had for a comeback. I watched a clip on youtube and craptastic is the only word that came to mind. Her lip sinking skills are worse than ever, she stopped even trying to lip sink at one point. Long gone are her signature 6-pack abs replaced with childbirth jiggle. The choreography was pathetic. The list goes on and on. I for one am hoping her outrageously bad performance and a failed new album will get her outta the news once and for all (or until she flashes a camera again, or is being a bad mom ;) )

How To Break iTunes DRM LEGALLY

Apple doesn't really tell you how easy it is to circumvent the DRM of songs purchased from the iTunes music store for obvious reasons. All you need to do is burn your downloaded songs to CD in Audio CD format then reimport them into iTunes in the DRM-Free format of your choice. It's a slight pain but easy enough that anyone can do it. All you need is a CD-RW (although a CD-R would work too its just not reusable) and a little time.

One Time Setup: Access iTunes' preference dialog via the Edit menu. Select the Advanced tab and then within the Advanced tab select the Burning tab. Select the Audio CD radio box, and pick no gaps between songs. Switch to the Importing tab. Select MP3 encoder from the Import Using drop down and 192kbps in the Setting drop down.

Freeing Your Songs:
First group the songs you wish to "free" into a playlist. Remember you're only gonna be able to fit about 15 songs on a CD in CD Audio format, so you might have to make multiple playlists if converting a large number of songs. Next insert your CD-RW disc. Select the playlist you wish to burn and press the Burn Disc button in the lower right of the iTunes window.

When the CD burn completes it will show up in the iTunes left hand navigation with a CD icon next to it. Click on the CD entry to highlight it, then press the Import CD button in the lower right of the iTunes window. That's it. When the import has finished you will have DRM free MP3s of the songs you purchased from the iTunes store stored in the same location as the original iTunes file.

Remember if you convert as you buy it's much less time consuming than waiting till later ;)
